Justin Gluesing, AMA ESD Superintendent, receives a check for $4,500 from Joe Gentry, Executive Director of the United Way of Northeast Michigan. The funds will support the purchase and installation of ADA-accessible playground equipment for students with disabilities at each public elementary school campus across the AMA ESD's three-county region. The AMA ESD's service area encompasses all of Alpena, Montmorency, and Alcona Counties and includes Alpena Public Schools, Alcona, Atlanta, and Hillman Community Schools.
"The United Way is an important partner in this project," Gluesing said. "They have assisted with many AMA ESD initiatives that have a direct impact on students and communities across our area."
The AMA ESD Board of Education approved 50% of the funding and continues to seek funding partners for the project. The project currently has donor commitments of approximately $80,000. An additional $35-40,000 will be needed to complete the full project across the nine (9) elementary school campuses.
