Justin Gluesing, AMA ESD Superintendent, receives an initial check for $6,000 from LeAnn Schultz, Director of Marketing for Alpena Alcona Area Credit Union. The funds will support the purchase and installation of ADA-accessible playground equipment for students with disabilities at each public elementary school campus across the AMA ESD's three-county region. The AMA ESD's service area encompasses all of Alpena, Montmorency, and Alcona Counties and includes Alpena Public Schools, Alcona, Atlanta, and Hillman Community Schools. In total, AAACU has pledged $18,000 to the project.
"Alpena Alcona Area Credit Union has always stepped up to help students in our region,” Gluesing said. "With branch offices throughout our three-county service area, they continue to look for ways to partner with our local districts and support the kids and communities we serve. We are proud of the ongoing partnerships we have with AAACU.”
The AMA ESD Board of Education approved 50% of the funding for the project. The project currently has donor commitments of approximately $90,000. An additional $30-40,000 is needed to complete the full project across the nine (9) elementary school campuses. Phase 1 of the project is scheduled for installation this summer at Alcona, Atlanta, and Hillman Community Schools. Phase 2 of the project is planned for the summer of 2024 and will focus on the Alpena Public School’s campuses.
